When Amber Leisure offered us the use of one of their motorhomes for a recent trip my initial reaction was "yes please...." swiftly followed by the thought "help, it's so large..." However, any fears I harboured soon disappeared when I got to know the vehicle which I found to be easier to use than expected - I have towed a caravan and this was so much simpler... made mental notes to avoid low branches and watch wing mirrors.

The motorhome we used was a 6 berth Rollerteam 600G with ample room for the dogs, fixed bowls and a full-size awning which provided vital shade for all of us. Amber Leisure have a large selection of vehicles, from 2 berth up to 7, and have a 2 and a 6 berth available for dogs. Collecting the vehicle was an easy process, the staff friendly and even waited for us to arrive on a bank holiday Monday - thank you. We left our own car securely stored at the depot. We were supplied with gas, a water container and hose, electric hook-up lead and cleaning fluids including toilet chemicals. Comprehensive insurance is included, breakdown cover and unlimited mileage.

Our home for the next few days was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped being supplied with everything we needed, including bed linen and towels. It sleeps two above the driving area, two in the main living area and two at the rear, above the dogs' quarters. The interior was bright and modern and also furnished with a TV and Freeview. It was a pleasure to relax inside or outside with a glass of wine after a busy day. Everything was easy to set up, with the modern controls inside we could keep an eye on the water levels (both fresh and waste) and battery levels. I must admit to feeling sorry for the people struggling to put up a tent in the downpour which arrived just as we did, if not unashamedly just a touch superior. The full-size fridge soon became well stocked with food and drink for our stay and also had a freezer compartment above. There was plenty of storage and cupboard space for all those essentials which a travelling dog needs (and the owners). In fact, I was still discovering cupboards up until the day I left. The shower room was compact, as one would expect, but had a comfortable amount of space which included a basin and toilet and more storage. And, the all important water pressure was better than that which we sometimes have at home! Plenty of windows meant we could the vehicle aired and cool on what turned out to be one of the hottest few days away so far this year, and they were equipped with fly screens and blinds.

Amber Leisure Motorhome

This motorhome was a comfortable ride and with a powerful engine it accelerated well. My own slight problem for someone of my height was that the handbrake was a little low. I didn't quite disappear below the dashboard to pull the brake up, anyone less than 5ft 4ins might find it tricky but not impossible. I liked the high seating position and eye line, all in all I found it easy to drive and to park, and a fantastic experience. I did, of course, make the comment on returning home: "I want one." I will not tell you the response from my husband...

Fynn and Jack enjoy their motorhome

Fynn in dog quarters

Fynn and Jack found their accommodation spacious, and there were built-in bowls and a ramp should they need it. It was the first place Fynn went to each time we
returned to the motorhome and so I knew he was happy there.
